Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only C-class flares identified. A total of 10 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours. SIDC Sunspot Group 929 (NOAA Active Region 4499) is the most magnetically complex region (Beta-Delta) on disk and produced most of the flaring activity in the last 24 hours. The largest flare was a C6.3 flare (SIDC Flare 8315) peaking on August 02 at 05:35 UTC, which was probably produced SIDC Sunspot Group 860 (NOAA Active Regions 4492). A region behind the west limb of the visible solar disk. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the past 24 hours.
In the past 24 hours the solar wind parameters came under the influence of an ICME associated with a CME that left the sun on July 30 (SIDC CME 701). A shock in the solar wind was observed at 11:29 UTC on August 02. The solar wind speed jumped from 291 to 350 km/s and the solar wind density jumped from 4 to 33 particles/cm3. The total interplanetary magnetic field jumped from 4 to 14 nT, with the Bz reaching a minimum of -7 nT. The phi-angle was in the positive sector (directed away from the Sun) with periods in the negative. The solar wind conditions are expected remain enhanced under the influence of the ICME in the next 24 hours.
The geomagnetic conditions were quiet globally and locally (Kp 1-2 and K BEL 1-3) in the last 24 hours. Active conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was enhanced at the start of the period and is continuing to gradually trend downward. The 10 MeV proton flux is expected to return to background levels in the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by the GOES-18 satellites, was above the 1000 pfu threshold between 17:45 UTC and 23:10 UTC on August 01. The 2 MeV electron flux is expected to cross the threshold again during the next 24 hour.
