Story

We went aurora hunting in Kuttainen for a night, it is situated at the border between Finland and Sweden far away from major cities and a very dark place. The day was all clear skies but some fog and clouds were forecasted for the evening/night. Nevertheless everything was set up for another successful aurora hunting night. Temperatures were crazy low with a staggering -35°C!!! At the start of the evening, it was very calm with very weak aurora visible only with long exposures so the first shots was from the Milky Way with faint aurora. But the solar wind data did look promising with steady southward Bz, it was only waiting for a substorm to start so my eyes didn't look back from the magnetometers and oh yeah it was worth the wait! We were treated with some very bright and intense fast moving aurora mostly green but with whites and purple becoming visible below the greens. As it moved sometimes too fast and bright I recorded some more with my phone. Definitely a night to remember.
