Zonnevlekkengebieden en zonnevlammen

Solar flaring activity has been low over the past 24 hours, with very few C-class flares. The strongest flare was a C1.5 flare (SIDC Flare 8210), peaking at 21:52 UTC on July 18. It is likely associated with SIDC Sunspot Group 919 (magnetic type alpha) that has rotated on disk from the east limb, in the northeast quadrant. There are currently three numbered active regions on the solar disk. The most complex one is SIDC Sunspot Group 916 (NOAA Active Region 4489, magnetic type beta- gamma). The solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.

Coronale massa uitstoten

Three Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in LASCO/C2 coronagraph imagery. SIDC CME 692 lifted off from the east limb, starting from 19:36 UTC on July 18. SIDC CME 693 lifted off from the east limb, starting from 01:26 UTC on July 19. A slow CME (SIDC CME 694) lifted off from the east limb, starting from around 07:00 UTC on July 19. All these CMEs are likely backsided events that are not expected to impact Earth. No other Earth-directed CMEs were observed in the available coronagraph imagery during the last 24 hours.

Coronale gaten

A southern, negative polarity coronal hole (SIDC Coronal 149, part of a larger L-shaped coronal hole) has crossed the central meridian. An associated high-speed stream is expected to arrive at Earth starting from the UTC evening on July 21.

Zonnewind

Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters (SOLAR-1 and ACE) reflected slow solar wind conditions. The solar wind speed was between 300 km/s and 330 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field was between 1 nT and 5 nT. The Bz component was between -4 nT and 3 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field angle phi was mostly in the positive sector, with intervals of negative values. Slow solar wind conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.

Geomagnetisme

Geomagnetic conditions globally were quiet (NOAA Kp 1 to 2) during the past 24 hours. Geomagnetic conditions locally were mostly quiet (K Bel 1 to 2), with a short interval of unsettled levels (K Bel 3) between 06:00 UTC and 08:00 UTC on July 19. Mostly quiet conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.

Proton flux niveaus

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold during the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain below the threshold level over the next 24 hours.

Elektronenfluxen in geostationaire baan

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux measured by GOES 18 was above the 1000 pfu threshold between 15:45 UTC on July 18 and 01:40 UTC on July 19. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux measured by GOES 19 was close to the threshold but remained below it during the past 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain mostly below the 1000 pfu threshold over the next 24 hours, possibly exceeding it for a short period. The 24-hour electron fluence was at normal levels and it is expected to remain so over the next 24 hours.
