Solar flaring activity was moderate over the past 24 hours, with 2 M-class flares identified. A total of 8 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours. SIDC Sunspot Group 886 (NOAA Active Region 4494) is the most magnetically complex region on disk (Beta-Delta) and produced most of the flaring activity in the last 24 hours. SIDC Sunspot Group 920 (NOAA Active Region 4493) has started to rotate over the western limb off the visible solar disk. The largest flare was an M3.2 flare (SIDC Flare 8274) peaking on July 26 at 15:28 UTC and the second largest flare The M1.0 flare (SIDC Flare 8279) peaking on July 27 at 02:43 UTC both were produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 886. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.
A Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) was observed in SOHO/LASCO C2 imagery around 20:00 UTC on July 26 and a filament eruption was observed in SDO/AIA 304 at 04:32 UTC on July 27 near the centre of the visible disk. Analysis of both events is ongoing.
SIDC Coronal Hole 159 (mid-latitude coronal hole with a positive polarity), which first reached the central meridian on July 27 is continuing to cross the central meridian.
Over the past 24 hours the solar wind parameters returned to slow solar wind condtions. The solar wind speed ranged between 476 km/s to 612 km /s. The total interplanetary magnetic field ranged from 2 to 6 nT, with the Bz reaching a minimum of -4 nT. The phi-angle was in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun) with periods in the positive sector. The wind conditions are expected to become enhanced in the next 24 hours, due to the arrival of a CME that left the sun on July 24.
The geomagnetic conditions were quiet globally (Kp 1-2) and locally quiet to unsettled (k BEL 1-3) in the last 24 hours. Active to minor storm conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV GOES proton flux was at background levels and is expected to remain at background levels over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by the GOES-18 and GOES-19 satellites, hovered around the 1000 pfu threshold at the start of the period and dipped below the threshold around 23:35 UTC on July 26. The 2 MeV electron flux is expected to cross the threshold again during the next 24 hour. The 24-hour electron fluence was at moderate levels and is expected to remain at moderate levels over the next 24 hours.
