A total of 9 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours. SIDC Sunspot Group 927 (NOAA Active Region 4498) is the largest and the most magnetically complex region on disk (Beta-Gamma) and produced most of the flaring activity in the last 24 hours. The largest flare was a C1.7 flare (SIDC Flare 8292) peaking on July 28 at 23:45 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 927. Solar flaring activity is expected to be moderate over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares expected and M-class flares likely.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the past 24 hours.
SIDC Coronal Hole 159 (mid-latitude coronal hole with a positive polarity), which first reached the central meridian on July 27 is continuing to cross the central meridian.
Slow solar wind conditions were recorded over the past 24 hours. The solar wind speed ranged between 320 km/s to 404 km/s. The total interplanetary magnetic field ranged from 2 to 8 nT, with the Bz reaching a minimum of -5 nT. The phi-angle was in the negative sector (directed towards the Sun) until it switched to the positive sector at 07:50 UTC on July 29. The solar wind conditions are expected to become enhanced in the next 24 hours, due to the possible arrival of high-speed streams associated with SIDC Coronal Hole 159 and possible glancing blow arrival from a CME (SIDC CME 700) that left the Sun on July 27
The geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled globally (Kp 1-3) and locally reached active conditions (K BEL 4) in the last 24 hours. Active conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV GOES proton flux was at background levels and is expected to remain at background levels over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by the GOES-18 satellites, was above the 1000 pfu threshold between 17:00 UTC on July 28 between 21:20 UTC on July 28. The 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain below the threshold during the next 24 hour. The 24-hour electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to remain at normal levels over the next 24 hours.
