Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only C-class flares identified. A total of 10 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours. SIDC Sunspot Group 929 (NOAA Active Region 4499) is the most magnetically complex region (Beta-Gamma) on disk and produced most of the flaring activity in the last 24 hours. The largest flare was a C1.7 flare (SIDC Flare 8307) peaking on July 31 at 13:57 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 929. Solar flaring activity is expected to be moderate over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares expected and M-class flares likely.
No Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the past 24 hours.
Slow solar wind conditions were recorded over the past 24 hours. The solar wind speed ranged between 275 km/s to 335 km/s. The total interplanetary magnetic field ranged from 2 to 6 nT, with the Bz reaching a minimum of -3 nT. The phi-angle was in the positive sector (directed away from the Sun) with periods in the negative. The solar wind conditions are expected to become enhanced in the next 24 hours due to the arrival of a CME that left the Sun on July 30 (SIDC CME 701).
The geomagnetic conditions were quiet globally (Kp 1-2) and quiet to unsettled locally (K BEL 1-3) in the last 24 hours. Minor storm conditions are expected in the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux started the period above the 10 pfu threshold and decreased below the threshold at 17:45 UTC on July 31 and is continuing to gradually trend downward. The 10 MeV proton flux is expected to continue its gradual decrease over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by the GOES-18 satellites, was above the 1000 pfu threshold between 19:40 UTC and 23:45 UTC on July 31. The 2 MeV electron flux is expected to cross the threshold again during the next 24 hour. The 24-hour electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to remain at normal levels over the next 24 hours.
