Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours. The largest flare was a C1.2 flare peaking on August 04 at 11:58 UTC. There are currently 6 numbered regions on the disk. SIDC Sunspot Group 927 (NOAA Active Region 4498) remains the most magnetically complex region on disk (Beta-Delta) but was stable. SIDC Sunspot group 933 (NOAA Active Region 4502) and SIDC Sunspot group 929 (NOAA Active Region 4499) grew over the period. The remaining regions were stable or in decay. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares likely and isolated M-class flares possible.
Two slow narrow Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed. The first, SIDC CME 703, was directed to the north-east in STEREO-A/COR-2 from 08:53 UTC on August 03. This CME was observed in LASCO-C2 data to the north-west. This may be associated with a small eruption near SIDC Sunspot group 927. The second, SIDC CME 702, was directed to the south-east in STEREO-A/COR-2 from 13:53 UTC and seen in LASCO-C2 data to the south-east from 12:36 UTC on August 03. This event was associated with a filament eruption in the southern hemisphere that began around 11:30 UTC. Analysis of these eruptions is ongoing but there is a chance of a glancing blow from one or both of these CMEs from August 07.
Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters reflected the waning ICME influence. The magnetic field strength ranged between 4 and 12 nT, decreasing towards the end of the period. The solar wind speed ranged between 360 and 440 km/s. The solar wind conditions are expected to return to a slow solar wind regime over the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions were at quiet to active levels (NOAA KP 2- to 4, K Bel 2 to 4). Unsettled conditions are expected for the next 24 hours with isolated active intervals possible due to the waning ICME influence.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain below this threshold level over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, was below the 1000 pfu threshold. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be below this threshold over the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels for the next 24 hours.
