Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours. The largest flare was a C1.6 flare (SIDC Flare 8328) peaking on August 05 at 06:22 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 933 (NOAA Active Region 4502). There are currently 6 numbered regions on the disk. SIDC Sunspot Group 936 (NOAA Active Region 4503) rotated onto the disk and was numbered, but is relatively small and simple (beta magnetic configuration). SIDC Sunspot Group 927 (NOAA Active Region 4498) decayed over the period. SIDC Sunspot group 930 (NOAA Active Region 4501) and SIDC Sunspot group 929 (NOAA Active Region 4499) are expected to rotate over the west solar limb over the next day. The remaining regions were stable or in decay. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares likely and isolated M-class flares possible.
A CME was observed directed to the north-east in STEREO-A/COR2 data from 13:23 UTC on August 04. This event is also seen to the north west in SOLAR-1/CCOR-2 data from 13:45 UTC. This is likely associated with a dimming near SIDC Sunspot group 927 (NOAA Active Region 4498). This event is being modelled but initial analysis suggests a glancing blow may be possible on August 08.
A small mid-latitude coronal hole (SIDC Coronal Hole 171) with a negative polarity began to cross the central meridian on August 05.
Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters reflected a slow solar wind regime. The magnetic field strength ranged between 3 and 4 nT. The solar wind speed ranged between 360 and 460 km/s. The solar wind conditions are expected to continue to reflect slow solar wind conditions over the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions were at quiet levels (NOAA KP and K Bel 1 to 2). Quiet conditions are expected for the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain below this threshold level over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, was below the 1000 pfu threshold. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be below this threshold over the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels for the next 24 hours.
