Solar flaring activity was very low over the past 24 hours. There are currently 5 numbered regions on the disk. The largest flare was a B7.6 flare (SIDC Flare 8338) peaking on August 08 at 08:58 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 937 (NOAA Active Region 4504). This region emerged over the period and was numbered. The remaining regions were all simple and either stable or in decay. Solar flaring activity is expected to be very low over the next 24 hours, with a C-class flares possible.
No new Earth directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were detected in the available coronagraph imagery.
Two coronal holes began to transit the central meridian on August 08: An equatorial coronal hole with a positive polarity (SIDC Coronal Hole 177) and a mid-latitude coronal hole with a negative polarity (SIDC Coronal Hole 162).
Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters reflected a slow solar wind regime until around 02:50 UTC August 08 from when the Earth was under the influence of a weak slow ICME. The magnetic field strength was around 3 nT and then gradually increased to a maximum of nearly 19 nT at 09:36 UTC August 08. The solar wind speed increased from 250 km/s to a maximum of around 360 km/s at this time. Bz reached a minimum of -17 nT. The solar wind conditions are expected to continue to reflect the ongoing ICME influence and possibly further enhancements due to any weak high speed stream associated with SIDC Coronal hole 171.
Geomagnetic conditions were at quiet levels for the first half of the period and reached active levels (NOAA KP 4 + and K Bel 4) between 09:00 and 12:00 UTC. Active to minor storm conditions are expected for the next 24 hours due to the ongoing ICME influence.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain below this threshold level over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, was below the 1000 pfu threshold. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be below this threshold over the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels for the next 24 hours.
