Zonnevlekkengebieden en zonnevlammen

Solar flaring activity was very low over the past 24 hours. The X-ray flux was below C-class level. SIDC Sunspot groups 937, 931, 933 (NOAA Active regions 4498, 4500, 4502, respectively) rotated off the disk. There are currently two numbered regions on the disk. SIDC Sunspot group 936 (NOAA sunspot group 4503) has a simple Alpha magnetic configuration and is stable and quiet. SIDC Sunspot group 937 (NOAA sunspot group 4504) has a beta magnetic configuration and grew slightly over the period and produced only B-class flares. Solar flaring activity is expected to be very low over the next 24 hours, with only a low probability for C-class flares.

Coronale massa uitstoten

Two filament eruptions were observed on August 08. The first was a filament eruption in the north-east quadrant seen in SDO/AIA 304 from 01:40 UTC on August 08. An associated Coronal Mass Ejection (SIDC CME 705) is visible in SOHO/LASCO- C2 to the north from 03:24 UTC and in STEREO-A/COR2 to the north east from 03:23 UTC. The second filament eruption was observed in the south east quadrant in SDO/AIA 304 from 06:00 UTC on August 08 and an associated CME (SIDC CME 706) is observed in LASCO-C2 data from 06:36 UTC August 08 to the south-east and in STEREO-A data this is seen as full halo CME. Initial analysis shows a possible glancing blow from the first CME (SIDC CME 705) early on August 12. The second CME (SIDC CME 706) is expected to be mostly ahead of the Sun-Earth line, but any possible glancing blow may be seen at Earth at interacting with the first CME arrival on August 12.

Zonnewind

Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters displayed the ongoing influence of an ICME. The magnetic field strength was stable around 15 to 17 nT for most of the period and began to gradually decrease to around 6 nT by the end of the period. Bz was mostly negative between 16:00 UTC August 08 and 00:00 UTC August 09 with a minimum value of -17 nT. The solar wind speed increased from around 330 to 440 km/s, with a possible weak connection to the solar wind from SIDC Coronal hole 171 also contributing to the increased solar wind speed. The ICME influence is expected to wane over the next 24 hours. Further high speed stream influence may be possible from August 11 associated with SIDC coronal hole 177.

Geomagnetisme

Geomagnetic conditions reached moderate storm conditions (NOAA Kp 6-) with minor storm conditions locally (K Bel 5). Active conditions are expected for the next 24 hours, with further minor storm conditions possible, due to the waning ICME influence.

Proton flux niveaus

The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold over the past 24 hours. It is expected to remain below this threshold level over the next 24 hours.

Elektronenfluxen in geostationaire baan

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, was below the 1000 pfu threshold. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be below this threshold over the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to be at normal levels for the next 24 hours.
