Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only a C2 flare identified (SIDC flare 8345). It was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group (SG) 938 (NOAA Active Region [AR] 4505, Beta magnetic configuration) that currently rotates behind the limb. A yet- unnumbered SG/AR is rotating into view, but so far does not appear complex. As such, the change of a C-class flare in the next 24 hours is below 50%.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours.
SIDC Coronal Hole (CH) 174 is a northern, middle-latitude, elongated, irregular, positive polarity structure. It started crossing the solar central meridian in the last 24 hours, but due to its relatively small size and irregular shape, it is not likely to have a significant effect on Earth.
The Solar Wind (SW) conditions of the past 24 hours featured a slow SW regime until the arrival of a glancing blow on 11 Aug at 10:34 UTC. Until this event, the SW speed dropped from 420 to 320 km/s, the interplanetary magnetic field (B) ranged between 4 and 6 nT, and its North- South component (Bz) varied from -3 to 5 nT. However, the glancing blow (associated with SIDC CME 705) increased the SW speed back to 420 km/s, the B to 10 nT, and the Bz dropped as low as -7 nT. The current disturbance is expected to last less than 24 hours and its intensity is estimated to remain roughly at the present levels.
The geomagnetic conditions of the past 24 hours were at quiet levels both globally and locally (NOAA Kp 0+ to 2- and K BEL 1 to 2) until the arrival of a glancing blow on 11 Aug at 10:34 UTC. However, the event had so far a very minor effect, as NOAA Kp remained at 2 and K BEL increased to 3. In the next 24 hours unsettled to active conditions are expected both locally and globally.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux, as measured by the GOES-19 satellite, was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is likely to remain so in the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES 19, was below the 1000 pfu alert threshold for past 24 hours. It is expected to remain at the same levels in the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels in the past 24 hours and it is expected to remain at the same levels in the next 24 hours.
