Solar flaring activity was low but frequent over the past 24 hours, with 11 C-class flares identified. SIDC Sunspot Group (SG) 939 (NOAA Active Region [AR] 4506, Beta magnetic configuration) produced six of those flares and SIDC SG 940 (NOAA AR 4507, Beta magnetic configuration) four. The brightest flare, SIDC flare 8372, was a C3 that peaked on 16 Aug at 03:18 UTC. More C-class flaring activity is expected in the next 24 hours.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CME) were observed in the last 24 hours.
SIDC Coronal Hole (CH) 149 (a southern, mid-latitude, negative polarity) first reached the central meridian on 16 Aug. An associated High Speed Stream (HSS) is likely to arrive at Earth on 19 Aug.
The Solar Wind (SW) conditions of the past 24 hours featured a typical slow SW regime. The SW speed dropped from 370 to 320 km/s, the interplanetary magnetic field (B) varied between 1 and 6 nT, and its North- South component (Bz) ranged from -5 to 4 nT. Similar conditions are expected for the next 24 hours.
The geomagnetic conditions of the past 24 hours were at quiet to unsettled levels both globally and locally (NOAA Kp 1+ to 3- and K BEL 1 to 3). The conditions of the next 24 hours are likely to drop to quiet levels both globally and locally.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux, as measured by the GOES-19 satellite, was at nominal levels over the past 24 hours and is likely to remain so in the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES 19, was below the 1000 pfu alert threshold for past 24 hours. It is expected to remain at the same levels in the next 24 hours. The electron fluence was at normal levels in the past 24 hours and it is expected to remain at the same levels in the next 24 hours.
