Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only C-class flares identified. The largest flare was a C4.1 flare (SIDC Flare 8449), peaking at 06:53 UTC on August 23, which was associated with SIDC Sunspot Group 929 (NOAA Active Region 4513, magnetic type beta-gamma-delta). There are currently four numbered active regions on the solar disk. SIDC Sunspot Group 929 remained stable over the past 24 hours and is the most complex group. SIDC Sunspot Groups 941 and 946 (NOAA Active Regions 4508 and 4514, respectively) rotated across the west limb. The solar flaring activity is expected to be moderate over the next 24 hours, with M-class flares likely and a small chance for X-class flares.
No Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) were observed in the available coronagraph imagery in the last 24 hours.
Over the past 24 hours, the solar wind parameters reflected a gradual return towards a slow solar wind regime under the waning influence of the high-speed stream. Speed values ranged from around 410 km/s to around 460 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field values ranged between 2 nT and 6 nT. The Bz component varied between -4 nT and 4 nT. The interplanetary magnetic field angle was mostly in the negative sector. Slow solar wind conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.
Geomagnetic conditions globally and locally were mostly at quiet levels over the past 24 hours (NOAA Kp 1 to 2, K BEL 1 to 2). Mostly quiet geomagnetic conditions are expected over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold level over the past 24 hours, although an enhancement was observed in GOES 18 data. It is expected to remain below the threshold level over the next 24 hours.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux measured by GOES 18 and GOES 19 was mostly above the 1000 pfu threshold level during the first part of the period, before decreasing below the threshold after around 02:00 UTC and 04:00 UTC on August 23, respectively. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain around the 1000 pfu threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24-hour electron fluence is presently at moderate levels and is expected to remain so over the next 24 hours.
