Zonnevlekkengebieden en zonnevlammen

Solar flaring activity was very low over the past 24 hours, with the X-ray flux remaining below C level. There are currently five numbered sunspot groups on the visible solar disk. SIDC Sunspot Group 948 (NOAA Active Region 4517; magnetic type beta), which is largest region on the disk, is approaching the west limb. SIDC Sunspot Group 950 (NOAA Active Region 4519) decayed into a plage region. The remaining active regions are relatively simple (magnetic type alpha or beta) and did not produce any significant flaring activity. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a small chance of M-class flares.

Coronale massa uitstoten

No Earth-directed CMEs were detected in the available coronagraph imagery over the past 24 hours.

Zonnewind

Solar wind conditions became slightly disturbed over the past 24 hours. The solar wind speed increased from around 290 km/s to around 430 km/s. The interplanetary magnetic field reached values up to 14 nT, and its north-south component, Bz, fluctuated between about -13 nT and +12 nT, with several prolonged southward intervals. The solar wind density reached values up to 27 particles/cm^3, while the proton temperature also increased. The magnetic field orientation was predominantly in the positive sector, with the field directed away from the Sun. These slightly disturbed solar wind conditions are most likely associated with the mild high-speed stream influence from the positive polarity coronal hole SIDC Coronal Hole 159, possibly combined with a weak contribution from a glancing blow arrival associated with SIDC CME 714, although no clear ICME signature was identified in the available solar wind data. Solar wind conditions are expected to remain slightly disturbed over the next 24 hours before gradually returning towards slow solar wind conditions.

Geomagnetisme

Geomagnetic conditions over the past 24 hours reached active levels both globally and locally over Belgium (NOAA Kp = 4+; K-Bel = 4). Mostly quiet to unsettled geomagnetic conditions are expected over the next 24 hours, with possible active periods due to the ongoing mild high-speed stream influence from the positive polarity coronal hole SIDC Coronal Hole 159, possibly combined with a glancing blow arrival associated with SIDC CME 714, which lifted off the Sun on August 25.

Proton flux niveaus

Over the past 24 hours, the greater than 10 MeV GOES proton flux was below the 10 pfu threshold. The proton flux is expected to remain below the 10 pfu threshold over the next 24 hours.

Elektronenfluxen in geostationaire baan

The greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, remained below the 1000 pfu alert threshold over the past 24 hours. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain below the alert threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24-hour electron fluence was at normal to moderate levels and is expected to remain at these levels over the next 24 hours.
