Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only C-class flares identified. The largest flare was a C1.1 flare (SIDC Flare 8538) peaking on September 06 at 13:34 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 946 (NOAA Active Region 4514). A total of 6 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours, all having alpha or beta magnetic configuration. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.
A Coronal Mass Ejection (SIDC CME 720) was visible to the east in STEREO A COR2 data on September 6 10:53 UTC, indicating this CME is Earth directed, corresponding to a faint full halo CME seen in LASCO C2 data on September 6 11:00 UTC. This CME is most likely associated with the C5.0 flare peaking on September 6 10:42 UTC from SIDC sunspot Group 943. Following initial analysis, this CME is expected to influence the solar wind conditions at Earth late September 8. A partial halo Coronal Mass Ejection, SIDC CME 717, was first seen in GOES-CCOR-1 data on 02:15 UTC on September 7. This CME is also visible to the west in COR2/STEREO-A data, indicating this is a back-sided event and not expected to impact Earth.
SIDC Coronal Hole 179, an equatorial coronal hole with positive polarity, first reached the central meridian on September 3 and is now located on the western side of the solar disk. A high-speed stream associated with this coronal hole is expected to influence the solar wind conditions near Earth in the next 24 hours.
Solar wind conditions near Earth were initially slow solar wind conditions over the past 24 hours, with the solar wind speed around 350 km/s, the interplanetary magnetic field around 6 nT, and the minimum Bz reaching about -7 nT. Since September 7 04:48 UTC, solar wind conditions are becoming slightly enhanced, most likely due to the arrival of the High Speed Stream associated with coronal hole 179, leading to magnetic field of 16nT and speed increasing slightly till 375 km/s. A further enhancement is possible in the next 24 hours due to a potential glancing blow ICME arrival associated with SIDC CME 716.
Geomagnetic conditions over the past 24 hours were quiet to unsettled both globally and locally over Belgium, with NOAA Kp and K-Bel reaching 3. For the next 24 hours, geomagnetic conditions may become active, with a chance of isolated minor storm periods, due to the arrival of the high-speed stream associated with SIDC Coronal Hole 179 as well as due to the possible glancing blow arrival of the ICME associated with SIDC CME 716 expected around September 8 noon.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux has returned to background levels during the last 24h. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux is expected to remain below the 10 pfu threshold over the next days.
Over the past 24 hours, the greater than 2 MeV electron flux, as measured by GOES-18 and GOES-19, was mainly below the 1000 pfu alert threshold but shortly crossed the threshold on September 6 around 18:00 UTC. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux and is expected to remain around or below the threshold over the next 24 hours. The 24-hour electron fluence was at normal levels and is expected to remain at normal levels over the next 24 hours.
