Solar flaring activity was low over the past 24 hours, with only C-class flares identified. The largest flare was a C1.4 flare (SIDC Flare 8554) peaking on September 10 at 00:51 UTC, which was produced by SIDC Sunspot Group 943 (NOAA Active Regions 4510, 4524). A total of 8 numbered sunspot groups were identified on the disk over the past 24 hours, all having alpha or beta magnetic configuration. Solar flaring activity is expected to be low over the next 24 hours, with C-class flares very likely and a chance for M-class flares.
No new Earth-directed Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) have been detected in the available coronagraph images.
Over the past 24h the solar wind at the Earth transitioned to slow solar wind speed, with speeds around 450 km/s and interplanetary magnetic field around 4 nT. In the next 24 hours, solar wind may become fast following the possible High Speed Stream arrival associated with SIDC Coronal Hole 180 on September 11.
Geomagnetic conditions were quiet to unsettled globally, with NOAA Kp and K_Bel reaching 3 over the past 24 hours. Unsettled geomagnetic conditions are over the next 24 hours, with possible periods of active conditions from around September 11 due to the possible arrival of the high-speed stream associated with SIDC Coronal Hole 180 with K values possibly reaching 4.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux remained below the 10 pfu threshold and is expected to remain so over the next days.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was above the 1000 pfu alert threshold in the beginning of the reporting period in response to the high solar wind speed associated with the Coronal Hole (SIDC CH 179) and returned just under the alert threshold in the second half of the reporting period. The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to remain initially below the 1000 pfu threshold but may rise again above the threshold under the influence of the possible arrival of the high speed stream associated with SIDC Coronal Hole 180 on September 11. The 24h electron fluence was at moderate levels and is expected to return to normal levels in the next 24 hours.
